Anarchism perennially trips over the first theoretical step towards practice. Having anathematized all forms of government, a fortiori, it therefore cannot embark on any agreed form of self-organization.
Organization, or a system of agreed rules/laws, are not per se, limitations of the freedom of the individual. They are the very framework that supports freedoms. As with the game of football, or any sport; take away the rules, & there is no game. No game, just the 'freedom' to fight & squabble. This appeals to infantile egos.
Every individual's freedom is the burden of responsibilities shared amongst others. This is a fact embodied at genetic level, since human beings are not the isolated, beleagured atoms of capitalistic materialism. Human beings are social creatures. That's how & why they separated from the animals - by the power of speech. But paradoxically, we are also uniquely individualistic. An awful lot of human history & struggle turns on this key issue - how to stabilize the always-unstable relationship of the unique one, with the social many. But what is dynamic, living & progressive, can never be stable. There is no perfect end-state of human societies, merely constant struggles to adjust & improve. We live with it.
Human languages allow endless, complex social arrangements. More significantly, they enable endless renegotiations, constant reformulations of individual freedom & social obligations. Anarchists can't handle such ideas. They are at root, conservatives, rather than revolutionaries. Pushed, they hark back to some 'natural', Garden of Eden state, when we all lived in harmony - ignorant & a-historical twaddle.
The latest, modish mode is the idiocy of anarcho-capitalism. Here, the foaming anarchist meets the smooth, Wall Street neocon. They agree; end governmental interference in free-market capitalism, & the world will bloom into prosperity for all. If you are sufficiently ignorant of history, this tripe may impress you. But in reality, capitalism never existed, & could never exist, w/out the framework & protection of a strong, centralized state. In fact, not even primitive trade is possible w/out a legal code, even if merely tribal custom & tradition.
Capitalism has run its historical course. It is now dead. It is collapsing into the coffin of fascism, where laws are owned by the fattest, richest, & best-armed. Unless the 99% rise up in revolution, they will live & quickly die in a pathocracy, a non-state of dehumanized non-being, where evil dances in total triumph, & the psychotic are decorated heroes.
To save wind, I'm for direct democracy (DD), so abolishing most remote gov & bureaucracy. But this can only be possible with ORGANIZATION. DD is the software of democracy, after the hardware of government has been stripped away. Central power is devolved to the local communities, where if you want s/thing done, you get together with others & do it.
